We select the section of River depending on water levels--the upper section is used when the River is higher--from # 8 to #11--has lots of little riffles and ledges for the whole trip. The trip usually takes about 4 hours--if the river is up from recent rains, make take as short as 3 hrs.

When the river level drops, we use #16 to #19. This is deeper water (to protect your underside!), so is slower water. The trip goes thru Compton's rapid which helps make up for the ‘slow water'. This is a great spot to stop for a swim. The trip usually takes 4 1/2 hr to 5 hr. So do plan your time accordingly.

Arrival times are 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 with departure soon after.  On Sat. & Sun. when busy, there will be more buses between those times but the last bus leaves at 12 noon.  Please plan your drive time-- less than 2 hr from the DC beltway, etc. to arrive in plenty of time to get your gear, park, sign up and get on the bus.

Reservations made online make ‘getting in and getting out on the River’ quicker.  Sign up here

Also do check out our safety video ahead of time.

Tubing season usually starts around Memorial Day weekend (earlier if it is a warm May) and winds down toward the end of August up to the middle of Sept. We can have great mid-Sept days of 75 to 80 degrees or the weather can turn cooler. Just check with us. We can always book you for tubes and then switch to canoes or rafts  if too cool.

To bring:  river shoes--not flip flops or bare feet; cooler with drinks and lunch; sun screen; and plan for a relaxing day on the River! Do note--in Virginia, it is illegal to drink in public. Do know that we do cooler searches and only allow up to 3 beers per person, no hard liquor and no glass. We think the Shenandoah River is intoxicating enough. It  is to be a Fun Time, not a Drunk Time. We want everyone to have a great time and get home safely.
